(or how to dissolve the arrow of

time)

it started with a simple question.

why does normal time flow forward?

my research found that the answer physicists give is entropy.

the universe was very ordered at the big bang. it has been getting more disordered for 13.8 billion years.

this gradient from ordered past to disordered future is

“the arrow of time”?

but what if a human, for a brief moment, could match the disorder of the universe itself?

to work on the question, help with several equations.

1st equation:

[shannon entropy]

in 1948, claude shannon wrote down a way to measure the disorder of any signal.

**H = −Σ pᵢ log₂ pᵢ**

H is entropy in bits. pᵢ is the probability of each possible outcome.

you sum across all outcomes, multiply each by its own log, flip the sign.

if 👁️ want as much chaos for this experiment, how?

a signal is most disordered when every outcome is equally likely.

a coin flip has 1 bit of entropy.

a die roll has about 2.58 bits. perfect quantum noise binned into eight buckets reaches about 2.7 bits — near the maximum possible.

use this number for max chaos?

then, metronome ticking, near zero.

dead?

the 2nd equation:

[quantum vacuum fluctuations.]

the quantum vacuum flickers with virtual particles popping in and out of existence. these fluctuations are the only signal in the known universe that is genuinely, fundamentally random.

at the australian national university in canberra, physicists measure these fluctuations with lasers and stream the numbers live to the world.

👁️ pull these livestream quantum numbers into the song 🥚 through an open api.

each byte is a number between 0 and 255. each byte has never existed before. each byte will never repeat.

the 3rd equation:

[the planck sonification transform]

how do you make a human resonate with the vacuum?

you turn quantum bytes into sound the body can feel.

each tone is born from three quantum bytes.

the first byte chooses pitch.

220 hz is the "a" below middle "c" , the same note that opens beethoven’s 9th.

the exponent ranges from 0 to 1.5, so the pitch sweeps across roughly one and a half octaves of the natural human vocal range.

the second byte chooses duration. between 80 and 300 milliseconds. shorter than a heartbeat. longer than a blink.

the third byte chooses loudness. quiet but knot silent.

three bytes. one tone. born from genuine cosmic indeterminacy.

you hear the sound of empty space.

the 4th equation:

[ convergence ]

now the human taps along with the quantum tones in the game on website.

👁️ measure the human’s tapping intervals.

👁️ sort them into eight buckets between 100 and 925 milliseconds.

👁️ compute their shannon entropy in real time, using the same equation shannon wrote in 1948.

then 👁️ compare the human’s entropy to the quantum entropy.

**convergence = (H_human / H_quantum) × 100%**

when convergence reaches 88%, the human’s rhythm has approached the disorder of the vacuum. for that moment the human is knot tapping in time. the human is tapping *as* time.

the arrow dissolves.

(what the equations do together)

shannon measures the disorder.

the quantum vacuum provides the maximum disorder.

the sonification transform delivers it into the body as sound.

the convergence equation watches the human dissolve.

four equations.

two ingredients (mathematics and the vacuum).

one outcome —> a human briefly steps out of time.
